Gender Equality and Girls’ Empowerment Program
Empowering women and girls
Tenebo Enable Africa is fully committed to promote gender equality and women’s rights primarily in the pastoralists’ societies.
Women and girls are faced with greater barriers than men and boys when it comes to fully participating in social, political and economic spheres. This inequality has manifested into denial of opportunities in all facets of life, from public governance to access to education and employment. Tenebo Enable Africa promotes the broadest participation of women and girls in the leadership space, works to end sexual and gender-based violence and to empower communities to advocate for gender responsive interventions. Our goal is to eliminate gender discrimination and ensure equal rights and opportunities for all genders, empowering women and girls in all aspects of life.
Tenebo Enable Africa will work together collaboratively with our Government, partners, funders, donors and volunteers to break these barriers, where all genders have a chance to attain both empowerment and equality.
We believe that together, we can
Rescue girls who are at risk of child marriage and FGM (female genital mutilation).
Amplify the voices of girls that are at risk of child marriage and defend girls’ rights to health education and the opportunity fulfill their full potential.
Promote girls’ economic justice, advocate for girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights, end gender-based violence and harmful practices (such as female genital mutilation and child marriage)
By taking serious actions together, we can build a world where girls are free and able to reach their full potential. We involve the community in empowering girls agenda in order to make everyone responsible and shaping their perception about girls value.
Sexual and Reproductive Health education enable girls to make the right decisions about relationships.
The training in hairdressing, styling and cosmetics empowers girls to enter the beauty industry. Tailoring and handcrafting, these programs teach girls sewing and garment making skills and enabling them to pursue careers in fashion or start their own businesses.
Menstrual Hygiene Support
Being on their period either forces our girls to stay home during their cycle, or to use alternative materials, such as, toilet paper (dirty clothes, news papers, cloths) to keep blood from staining their uniform.
By providing sanitary items and offering menstrual hygiene information equips our girls on taking better care of their bodies and to avoid using insanitary /unsafe materials, which could lead to some illnesses.
We want to ensure every girl keeps their confidence and is able to still get on with their normal activities, even during their period. The availability of sanitary pads enables girls to attend classes on a daily basis and boosts their confidence and gives them a better chance to perform favorably in class.
When girls are empowered
They can take control of their lives, make good decisions, and nothing can stop them to fulfill their dreams.
They will unleash their potential and will be able to become great leaders leading their own lives, family, community and the world to a better place socially and economically.
They can stay in school until they graduate and reach their full potential.
